By default, your device network settings would have likely been set to ‘automatic’ meaning your device will

automatically search for an available and compatible network. In some cases, devices may have been

locked to a band and/or network - for example the Telstra 3G network using 850 MHz spectrum, which is

scheduled for closure on 30th June 2024.


To use 4G/5G, you will need a compatible device which is 4G/5G capable. 


How to enable VoLTE (Voice over LTE) on a mobile phone – iOS/iPad Devices


Step 1: Check your mobile phone operating system.
  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select General
  3. Scroll to Software Update and follow prompts. 
Step 2: Ensure you have the latest carrier build enabled. 
  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select General
  3. Select About
  4. Scroll down to Service Provider (under PHYSICAL SIM Category), and check that Carrier is at least

    Telstra 35.0 (If an update is available, you will see an option to update your Service Provider

    settings). 

Step 3: Ensure 4G/5G is turned on. 
  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select Mobile
  3. Select Mobile Data Options
  4. Select Enable 4G
  5. Select Voice & Data to enable 4G/5G (VoLTE) calls

Step 1: Check your mobile phone operating system. 
  1. Go to Settings
  2. Software Update
  3. Download and Install (if available)
Step 2: Ensure you have the latest carrier build enabled. 
  1. Go to Settings
  2. Connections
  3. Mobile Networks
  4. Network Mode
  5. Select 4G/5G (auto connect).
