Is it mandatory to update or replace my device as part of the project?
Yes, it is, if the device is not upgraded it will lose access to internal resources such as Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive until the updates are made.
When will I receive an email with the instructions on how to replace or update my device?
The project will run for over multiple months and users will be contacted in tranches (not specific to any business unit or location), so please do not feel like you have been overlooked if your colleague in your office has received it and you have not.
Can I replace my Samsung device with an Apple device (or vice versa)?
Yes simply reply to the email you received regarding the replacement of your device advising of the change.

Will I lose any data when I update and configure my device?
The following table describes what is kept and what is lost during the configuration process
Data | Can Transfer? | Steps to Take |
Contacts | Yes | When you sign into Outlook on your new phone, your contacts will automatically download. Contacts can also be synchronised with iCloud |
SMS Messages | Yes / No | SMS messages cannot be retained, unless you use an iPhone (see instructions). Please make sure you take screen shots or email the contents of messages that you need to keep. |
Apps | Yes | Any apps that you have purchased can be installed on your new phone. Login to your device with your Apple ID and you will be able to install any previously purchased apps without paying again. Any work apps that you have access to can similarly be re-installed. |
Personalisation | No | You will need to setup a new passcode, FaceID, App groups, wallpapers and alarm/clock settings on your device. |
Photos | Yes | Photos can be backed up to OneDrive, iCloud or transferred to a desktop/laptop. |

What restrictions will apply to my device once I set up the MDM on it?
The following restrictions will apply (based on whether it is a personal device or corporate device, and if you do not meet the requirements, you will lose access to internal resources such as Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
- You will be forced to have a device passcode on your device, corporate or BYOD.
- You will be forced to meet the following passcode requirements on your device, corporate or BYOD:
- 6-digit passcode at a minimum
- No simple passcodes (i.e. 123456)
- Block re-use of previously used passcodes (3 previous)
- You will need to be compliant to a minimum operating system (i.e. iOS 15.7.3 or Android 10), corporate or BYOD.
- You will be unable to factory reset your device, corporate only.
- You will be unable to share corporate information to any non-corporate source, i.e., copy pasting data from Outlook to a notepad or a SMS.
- You will be unable to save corporate information anywhere except approved locations (DPE OneDrive & SharePoint)
- You will be only able to install applications from the Google App Store on Android devices, corporate only.
What information will DPE be able to see if my device is on the MDM?
Your organization can always see:
- Device owner
- Device name
- Device serial number
- Device model, such as Google Pixel
- Device manufacturer, such as Microsoft
- Operating system and version, such as iOS 12.0.1
- Device IMEI
- App inventory and app names, such as Microsoft Word
- On personal devices, your organization can only see your managed app inventory, which includes work and school apps.
- On corporate-owned devices, your organization can see all apps installed on the device.
- On corporate-owned devices with a work profile, which is limited to Android devices, your organization can only see the apps installed in your work profile.
Your organization can't see:
- Calling and web browsing history
- Email and text messages
- Contacts
- Calendar
- Passwords
- Pictures, including what's in the photos app or camera roll
- Files
- Additionally, on corporate-owned Android devices with a work profile:
- Apps and data in your personal profile
- Phone number
How will I know my device has enrolled on the MDM correctly?

For Corporate devices, you will see the following message on the lockscreen. | For Corporate devices, a message will appear on the lockscreen. |
[Corporate Devices] You can check the Settings app and see the following message | [Corporate and BYOD] Swipe up from the homescreen to access the app drawer. You will see a work profile tab. |
What can I do with my ancillary device (i.e. smart watches) with my corporate smartphone?
No support is provided for the use of ancillary devices, also DPE will not allow the use of corporate mobile services on ancillary devices.
There are no restrictions set on corporate device's mobile device management for ancillary devices, for assistance with any set up please contact your supplier / manufacturer (i.e., Apple).
What to do if you're having issues with your iCloud storage?
If you do not have enough space in your iCloud to back up your contacts, please follow one of the steps within the Apple recommended guide on how to manage your iCloud storage. https://support.apple.com/en-us/108922#
How to back up and restore your Microsoft Authenticator credentials?
When transferring or resetting your mobile device the Microsoft Authenticator application can be backed-up and restored without having to reset your MFA login credentials.
Before transferring or resetting your mobile device, please follow the back up account credentials link first to back up your Microsoft Authenticator credentials, Back up account credentials in Microsoft Authenticator - Microsoft Support.
Once the back up of your credentials is complete, the Restore account' link can be followed to restore your account credentials to your new or reset mobile device. Restore account credentials from Microsoft Authenticator - Microsoft Support.
For Android:
The MDM Enrolment - Android 13 guide can be referenced from step 24 prior to activating Outlook to restore your account credentials for Microsoft Authenticator.
For iOS:
