How to Change a SIM Card on a Laptop

Use this quick reference guide for steps on how to change a SIM card on a laptop.

Resources required:

  • DCJ issued laptop
  • DCJ issued SIM or nano-SIM card
  • Paper clip to eject the SIM tray

Lenovo Thinkpad T470s

 

Turn off the computer

Locate the SIM card slot for your laptop.

 

The sim card slot is found on the righthand side of the laptop.

Straighten a paper clip and insert into the hole and push inward until the tray is released.

 

Use a paper clip in the hole to open the tray.

 

Some paper clips may not fit into the hole so may not be able to engage the button to open the tray.

 

Try using a smaller paper clip if this occurs.

Remove the tray from the laptop, then remove the SIM card from the tray.

Place the micro-SIM card into the tray with the metallic contacts facing up.

Align the tray with the slot and carefully slide it in.

If the SIM card starts to wedge between the slot and the tray, do not continue pushing it in.

Remove the tray and realign the card before placing the tray back into the slot.

Reconnect the AC power adapter and all cables.

Locate the nano-SIM card tray at the rear of the computer.

Straighten a paper clip and insert into the hole and push inward until the tray is released.

 

Some paper clips may not fit into the hole so may not be able to engage the button to open the tray.

 

Try using a smaller paper clip if this occurs.

Remove the tray from the laptop, then remove the nano-SIM card from the tray.

Place the nano-SIM card into the tray with the metallic contacts facing up.

Note: Be sure to use a nano-SIM card. Do no use a standard-sized SIM card. The standard-sized SIM card is not compatible.

 

 

Align the tray with the slot and carefully slide it in.

If the SIM card starts to wedge between the slot and the tray, do not continue pushing it in.

Remove the tray and realign the card before placing the tray back into the slot.

Reconnect the AC power adapter and all cables.

Locate the SIM card slot for your laptop.

 

The sim card slot is found on the left-hand side of the laptop.

Press in on the sim card tray until the tray is released.

Remove the tray from the laptop, then remove the SIM card from the tray.

Insert the replacement SIM card into the SIM card tray (1), and then replace the tray in the computer. 

Press gently on the tray (2) until it is firmly seated. 

If the SIM card starts to wedge between the slot and the tray, do not continue pushing it in.

Remove the tray and realign the card before placing the tray back into the slot.

Reconnect the AC power adapter and all cables.
