Backup and Restore - Apple iPhone Devices
Introduction
This user guide describes how to backup and restore an existing Apple mobile device to a new device via Apple's iCloud service.
Note: This process cannot be completed on the same device if migrating from non-supervised to supervised status.
There are 2 parts in this process and it may take up to 2 hours depending on the size of the backup and Wi-Fi network speed.
- Part A - Create iCloud Backup
- Part B - Restore Backup and Setup of Phone
System Requirements
- Apple device with an iOS 15 or higher
- Reliable Wi-Fi connection
- Apple ID and iCloud storage (free accounts are 5GB only)
Part A: Create iCloud Backup
1. Open the Settings app and select your Apple ID banner. | |
2. Select 'iCloud'. | |
3. Select 'iCloud Backup'. | |
4. Ensure 'iCloud Backup' is enabled and select 'Back Up Now'. Then select 'iCloud' to go back. Note: backing up will take considerable time depending on the size of the backup and speed of your Wi-Fi network. | |
5. On the main iCloud screen and select 'Manage Storage', then select 'Backups'. | |
6. Select your latest backup. Note: if you have multiple device backups, they will be listed here. Any backups of this device will be indicated with 'This iPhone'. | |
7. Disable 'Comp Portal' and 'Outlook' on the list of apps. |
Part B: In your new phone - Insert your original SIM or newly activated SIM and turn it on
1. Select Language 'English'. | |
2. Select region as 'Australia'. | |
3. Select 'Set Up Manually'. | |
4. Select your Wi-Fi network (not mobile connection), enter the Wi-Fi password and select 'join'. Note: Do not connect to a guest network as it will not allow an internet connection. | |
5. Select 'Restore from iCloud Backup'. | |
6. Enter your Apple ID and select 'Next'. | |
6a. If prompted, confirm verification code from your other device here. Note: This will only prompt if you have 2FA enabled on your Apple ID. | |
7. Select 'Agree'. | |
8. If prompted, enter the passcode from your other device. | |
9. Select the latest backup. Note: previous backups and backups of other devices will also show up on this list. Ensure you select the latest backup of your device. | |
10. Select 'Continue'. | |
11. Allow time for the restore process to complete. This will depend on the size of the backup. |
Once the restore has completed, continue the setup of the phone via the following guide starting from Step 6. |
